Go hard or go home! This has got to be one of my fav Ye songs of all time. Not only does is speak on the grind, haters and reaching your full potential, he also adds a lil humor in it as well. Fav line: “When I came up ya’ll gave me sh*t, now I’m finna make y’all eat them turds.” #cold

The Education of Millionaires Review

November 5, 2011 in Book Reviews

The Education of Millionaires: It’s Not What You Think and It’s Not Too Late is hands down one of the best business/marketing/self-improvement books of 2011. Following in The 4-Hour Workweek’s tradition of rising above the status quo, The Education of Millionaires is a perception and all over life changing book that will never leave you the same.

The main idea behind the book is that you don’t need a formal, college education to become successful in life. In fact, you actually might be doing yourself a disservice by going the traditional route of spending  4 years of your new-found adult freedom, taking out massive student loans and foregoing other career opportunities, just to find yourself fighting tooth and nail over entry-level positions in a field not even related to your major. And that’s if you’re lucky! I know too many people who have gone the traditional route only to find jobs that they hate would’ve got out of high school, so I know this idea is not too far-fetched.

The author (Micheal Ellsberg) makes a clear distinction between formal education and self-education, which can be defined as learning the skills that are necessary and valuable in the real world, skills employers and potential clients actually care about. If you’ve been following New School Success for a while, you already know we’re a HUGE supporter of self-education vs. formal education (having gone both routes). So, The Education of Millionaire struck a chord with me, as if it was confirming everything I’ve been thinking since I began to pursue higher education.

The Education of Millionaires tells exactly how it is in the world today: mainly how having a degree does not necessarily equate to job security anymore in today’s economy, which is rampant with outsourcing, offshoring, downsizing and flat-out bankruptcy. You basically have to make yourself valuable to your employer and/or clients to keep a job or business going and formal education is just not cutting it anymore. So, it’s up to YOU to self-educate and stand out in today’s crowded and not to mention, global marketplace. Thankfully, The Education of Millionaires gives you a blueprint on just how to go about it, all while providing plenty of real world examples of people who have made it by going against the grain and blazing their own path to success.

Some of the topics covered in the book are why sales and marketing are vital to any business (actually more important than your product or service), the art of networking, bootstrapping and self branding and last, but definitely not least, how your mindset determines everything.

Not only is The Education of Millionaires a good read, it’s also entertaining and has the capability to change your life, that is if you actually take the information to heart. It’s not another one of those stuffy, theoretical based business books that will put you to sleep just by looking at the cover, but one with real world examples and advice that pertains to today. #HighlyRecommended

Out With The Old, In With New

Young Black Wealth is now New School Success! Why the change? Well, there are a couple of reasons. First and foremost, I felt that I was pigeonholed into discussing only certain subjects with Young Black Wealth. I have morphed into more of a success minded individual, not just focused on monetary gains. Hell yeah, money still matter, but success involves way more than what’s in your bank account.

Secondly, I want the site to be relevant to any and everybody who are on their grind. Be it Black, White, Red, Yellow, Brown, etc. And last, but not least, I feel there is a void within our generation when it comes to walking along the path to success. Going to college, just to get a 9 to 5 and work for a boss and a job that you absolutely hate for a good 30-40 years is not going to cut it anymore.

So, with that being said, New School Success is basically a resource to making it happen in today’s technologically driven, global economy where you can have a job one day and see that same job outsourced to someone in another country that same week. But, on the flip side, this is an economy with huge opportunities to make it, where you can work from home in your pajama’s, while closing 5 figure deals, ditch the 9 to 5 to focus on YOUR lifelong goals and reach your maximum potential. The world is changing as we know it and those who don’t adapt will get left behind. New School Success is your guide through it all.

Scared Money: Overcoming Fear To Get What You Really Want

October 15, 2011 in Articles

“Scared money don’t make no money.” Let’s face it, fear is capable of holding you back from reaching your full potential and living the life you truly want to live. It can keep you from going after that big promotion, starting your own business, investing or even approaching the man or woman of your dreams. You know that life will be better once you overcome the fear. Yet, some people allow the feeling of fear lead them to inaction and procrastination, which in turn causes depression and feeling on inadequacy.

But, fear is natural and inevitable i.e. you can’t avoid it and have to conquer and overcome it. The fear will only dissipate once you face it, embrace it for what it is and decide to keep pushing. Fear is the by-product of moving out of you comfort zone into the unknown. What is predictable is comfortable and what is comfortable feels safe. Nobody likes to feel as if they are in danger. Fear is a natural response dating back to our ancestors who used the mechanism for survival purposes. Any threat would elicit a feeling of fear, which would in turn cause them to move out of harms way. But, back then fears were much more survival based and life threatening, such as the fear of getting attacked and eating by a wild animal or starving to death.

Most of our present day feats are no longer survival based. Now our fears are more based on social concerns, such as rejection from other and not being able to live the fabricated, Hollywood life we see on TV. There’s also the debilitating fear of success and the responsibility that comes along with it. people with this fear will often unconsciously self-sabotage themselves just so they won’t become successful. If any of this describes you, you must take action to overcome your fears and reach your full potential.

The only way to overcome your fears is to keep moving and acting despite your fears. Just because fear is there doesn’t mean you on the wrong path. Learn how to separate the difference between goal-hindering fear and suvival-based fear. Being scared to gie a speech that will boost your career just because you are shy and being scared to drive because you’re wasted are two totally different things. Let’s not be stupid now. But, when it coming to reaching your goals, action trumps all. So, get out there and network, put together that business plan or whatever it takes to overcome your fears!
